Creation and the Origin of Mankind

Posted by Joseph on June 18, 2006

The debate between creation and the theory of evolution has sparked an enormous amount of controversy since the days of Darwin. The arguments against evolution in favour of creation are more from the realm of logic and reasoning. The theory of evolution does not make logical sense. An example of this is in the human skeletal system with approximately 200 bones, all the possibilities of arranging these bones into new systems are 10 to the 375th power. If we were to create a new system every second for the next 10 billion years (most generous estimate of evolutionist’s age for the earth), we would have used up only 10 to the 18th power and there would still remain the possibilities of 10 to the 357th power. This illustration shows how absurd the evolutionist’s beliefs are in the realms of logic.

There are five main arguments for theism (the belief in God) and in a creature: the cosmological argument; the teleological argument; the moral argument; anthropological argument; and the religious experience argument.

The cosmological argument is also known as the first cause argument. It teaches that every event or change presupposes a cause and logically we must go back to an uncaused self-existent cause or to a self-existent being. There are three possibilities when it comes to the cosmological argument, either everything came from nothing; or matter is eternal and arranged itself or mind/spirit created the cosmos. The doctrine of revelation is apparent in this argument as natural revelation is essential to this, for nature itself teaches that there is a God and as a result of this the doctrine of God is presented. This argument teaches that without these two facts life is meaningless and we are just matter that has formed by chance with no apparent purpose for existing. This aspect is the result of belief in evolution, and one of the chief reasons why the cosmological argument is presented first.

The next argument is called the teleological argument. This argument teaches that the universe itself gives evidence of design thus needing a Designer. Again this argument is a proponent for natural revelation and an advocate for the existence of God. Another aspect in the teleological argument is the presentation of the anthropic principle. This principle teaches that the physical structure of the universe is exactly what it must be in order to support life. This also disproves evolution, for it is impossible for the exact components of survival to come together by chance when only one system is adequate for the sustaining of human life.

The third argument is the moral argument. This argument infers that objective moral law identifies a divine Law Giver. This is proven through the fact of man’s conscience or sense of duty to society. This teaches that man has a built in moral value system in which he is able to determine right from wrong. This shows that there is good and evil. Man is a free moral agent to choose right from wrong and that evil or sin is apart of society because of man’s poor decisions. Evolution would argue that this universal moral code as evolved over time and would deny that sin exists and that man has an eternal soul and that God exists. This is not logical, for how can we make sense of our moral experience if there is no God

The fourth argument for creation over evolution is the anthropological argument. This argument teaches that since man is an intelligent and personal being, his Creator must also be. We have a personal beginning that is reflected in that we are intelligent and social beings. The result of our mental capabilities and sociality of our existence there must be a Creator that is revealed to us through nature. Evolution would argue that we evolved into our intelligence from apes, but lack proof in their argument for such a transition. The real question in the theory of evolution is do evolutionists really think they are that dense that they came from an ape?

The fifth argument for creation is the religious experience argument. This argument argues that people, individuals and groups of people, have been convinced throughout the ages that they have had a personal experience or witnessed a special event proving the existence of God. A naturalistic evolutionist or an atheist must be able to prove that all of these believers are deluded. All believers through history has to be examined for if a single one of them, experienced God then God exists. This brings to mind Pascal’s Wager, which taught that a creationist (Christians) worst case scenario is that he is wrong and there is no heaven and there is just death. The evolutionists best case scenario is death and there worst case scenario is hell. Pascal taught that as a gambling man it would be better to chose creation/Christianity over evolution/atheism just because of the fact if you choose Christianity you have lost nothing, but on the other hand if you choose evolution/atheism you may have everything to loose.

The argument for evolution teaches that there is no God or revelation from God, that man is just an evolved creature and that there is no sin, only the code which society has evolved into. Evolution is truly a leap of faith. Creation/theism can adequately explain the presence of the world and its deign. It can account for the moral experiences and the presence of religious experiences. Evolutionist must believe that these two experiences are a result of chance, and is something that they cannot prove. The theory of evolution if accepted by the Christian is forcing him to question the existence of God, the fact of natural revelation, the morality of the human race (good choices vs. wrong choices – sin), and the question of man’s free will (good vs. evil – sin).

Evolution is just to difficult to believe. The question is which is easier to believe that 6,000 years ago that “God created the heavens in the earth” or that 4.5 billion years ago there was an explosion that just happened by chance, and a development of matter that formed into living organisms, just by chance and that ape-like creatures evolved into modern humans, just be chance. As Christians and creationist the theory of evolution is just too much of a risk.
